BYD to Rival Tesla with New Advanced Driver Assistance System
Chinese Automaker Invests $2 Billion in Smart Car Technology
ADAS to Compete with Tesla's Autopilot
Guangzhou-based automotive giant BYD is set to unveil a new advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) later this year that will rival Tesla's Autopilot, according to a recent report. The Chinese automaker has invested a staggering 14 billion yuan (approximately $2 billion) in smart car technology, with plans to integrate hands-free driving capabilities into its vehicles.
This move comes amid a growing trend of Chinese automakers investing heavily in autonomous driving technology. While Western companies like Tesla and General Motors have faced setbacks in developing self-driving cars, Chinese companies have made significant progress. A recent test by WIRED magazine found that China's top three autopilot systems performed better than Tesla's in certain scenarios.
BYD's new ADAS will be part of its Xuanji smart car system, which also includes artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing capabilities. The company aims to become a leader in intelligent driving, with plans to equip all vehicles above 300,000 yuan ($42,000) with the new system.
Analysts believe that BYD's investment in smart car technology is a strategic move to compete with global players like Tesla. The Chinese automaker has already gained a significant market share in the electric vehicle segment and is now looking to expand its dominance into autonomous driving.
